Scanning 101 - Scanning Text and Images

It's not until the execution or production phase that you will do your scanning
and manipulation of images
.

Evaluate technical quality: Evaluate technical quality immediately after scanning the image. You can't change it once it has been moved into place.


Scanning Opaque Pages



Using Photoshop 5.0
Place Image on Scanner copy board
(center at 0.0, face down & upside down)

Open Photoshop

Click File (on the menu bar): Choose Import
Click TWAIN 32

A Dialog box with last scanned image will appear

Click Preview
your image to scan will appear

Highlight image by clicking and dragging across image
(DETERMINES PORTION OF PICTURE TO BE DIGITIZED)

Notice: Mode:
scale 100 %
Input 150 ppi

Lower left hand corner is the image size
if image is < 1 mb will fit on floppy A: drive
if image is > 1 mb then will need to be saved to zip disk
Click Scan
when scan is complete Close Box

Clean, Crop and Manipulate Image

Click File: Save
Type in title (with file format extension)

Choose Format JPEG, TIFF, GIFF etc……..

JPEG option dialogue box will come up

Choose Quality: max
Format: baseline
then OK
Choose destination (disc or network drive)
Click Save

Exit Program

 

 


Scanning Text
Using OmniPage

Make sure scanner is on and
place page of text face down on scanner copy board

Under Carere application open OmniPage Direct 10.0
to scan text only. Click on auto OCR Wizard and follow directions

The text will be scanned and Proof read

Edit and save document

Quit OmniPage
