Using the ATC's RealProducer
Plus G2 software
to convert .avi and .wav files to .rm files.
1. Place a copy your .avi or .wav file in the E:\StreamVideo folder on the
workstation's hard drive (or some location that you will remember).
2. Start RealProducer Plus G2 by double-clicking on the desktop icon.
3. In the New Session window, select File as the Input Source.
4. Use the Browse button to trace the path to your file.
5. With your file selected, click Open and you should be back at the
New Session window.
6. Fill in the blanks for Title and Author. (Description and Keywords
are optional.)
7. For Output, select RealMedia File. You can change the path and file
name as needed but leave the .rm extension.
8. For the Target Audience options, you should include 28K and 56K modems
whenever your file will be played off-campus. (Note: Real Corp. recommends
a maximum bit rate of 20 kbps for 28K modems and 32 kbps for users with
56K modems.)
9. Select the Audio Format that matches the audio component of your presentation
and a Video Quality setting based on the descriptions provided.
10. Choose Multi-rate SureStream ... for the File Type. Also check the
box for compatibility with RealPlayer v5.
11. In the RealProducer Plus G2 window, click the Start button to begin
the conversion process.
12. When the Processing Complete window displays, you may wish to click
Statistics to see some of the recording data. Click Close to return to
the RealProducer Plus G2 window.
13. You may now preview your clip by clicking the Play button.
14. If you are done, you can close RealProducer Plus G2. If you had difficulty
with this process, you may wish to use the Recording Wizard to step you
through the process. Pull down the File menu, pick Recording Wizards,
and Record from File.
15. Contact the ATC staff to have your .rm file placed on the UTMB streaming
media server and to learn the Internet link to place on your web page.
