It is possible to configure
EndNote to search Ovid databases. The advantage is that references are
immediately made part of your EndNote database. The disadvantage is that
you lose all the valuable search tools that the Ovid search interface
provides. Steps:
- Apply to the Moody Medical
Library for an Ovid user ID and password.
- EndNote has connection files
for many databases and platforms. Connect to the EndNote Connection
Files page and locate the desired database. There is a sort feature
so you can group your choices by database name or by "Information
Provider" (e.g. Ovid).
- Click on the ftp link in
the table.
- When prompted, Save the
file. Browse to the folder where EndNote is saved on your hard drive
and save the file in the Connections folder. For example: C:\Program
Files\EndNote\Connections.
- Open EndNote.
- Click on the Edit pull-down
menu.
- Click on Connection Files
and select Open Connection Manager.
- Scroll until you see the
database name and matching information provider. E.g. Medline (Ovid)
and Ovid
- Click the Edit button.
- Click on Connection Settings.
- Enter your Ovid user id
and password in the appropriate blanks. When you close the window, you
will be prompted to save changes.
- Click on the Tools pull-down
menu and select Connect and the appropriate database to search.
