| Goals |
| To develop clinical and assessment skills on a variety of geriatric psychiatric patients who are acutely ill and require inpatient treatment or intensive outpatient care in a formal geriatric Intensive Outpatient Program |
| Objectives |
| To develop an understanding of the psychaitric issues which are frequently seen in the geriatric population including psychiatric manifestations of geriatric illnesses such as dementia and the presentation of common psychiatric conditions such as mood disorders, anxiety and schizophrenia in elderly patients. |
| Description of course activities |
| Students will receive individualized clinical expereince under the supervision of an attending psychaitrist. they will have the responsibility of their patients from assessment through the treatment and discharge process. Students will also follow at least one patient in the Intensive Outreach Program. The student will e responsible for daily patient care documentation on all patients assigned to him/her. The student will also work with the neuropsychologist (PhD-level) and observe the neuropsychiatric evaluations done on geriatric patients when consults are received from the medical/surgical physicians. |
